Michael Magree SJ, newly appointed Assist. Prof. (Theology) photographed in the Theology Dept. in Stokes for a future issue of Chronicle.

I am Michael C. Magree, a Catholic priest in the Society of Jesus, and Associate Professor in the Department of Theology at Boston College. I teach early Christian theology, especially of the fourth and fifth centuries. Such theology is often called “patristic theology,” meaning that which comes from people called in Latin patres, the “fathers” or early leaders of the Church.

The goal of this blog is to provide a public outlet by which to share photos, quotes, and reflections with friends and a wider audience. The title of this blog, “Observances,” plays on the word’s meaning of a ritual performance or the following of a rule, while also involving its rare meaning that was equivalent to “observation” or “consideration.”

I am a proud native of Ohio, though I have lived the majority of my Jesuit life in various places along the East Coast of the United States.
